9 Tips for a Great Home Yoga Experience
Many people think that if they’re not attending a yoga class, they’re not reaping the benefits. If you think about it though, home yoga was where it all started. Remember, this is an art that has been around for thousands of years, and it’s unlikely that its originators went down to the community center for a class!
Of course, home yoga was where it all started, and you can also have a great home yoga experience by following these simple tips.
1. Find a great yoga website, and sign up – you’d be surprised at the tips, tricks and advice you can get for free. Below is an example
Here is an excellent beginners video for a Home Yoga Practise.
2. Invest in a good yoga home study course. DVD’s are good, since you can watch them while you practice, but if you prefer books, that’s ok too. Here is a Modern Online Yoga Class that suits beginners and is free.
3. Set aside a corner of your house to be your yoga area. Store your equipment, incense and training materials there.
4. Invest in a non slip yoga mat. There’s nothing worse than losing your balance when attempting a pose.
5. Identify a good time of day to begin your home yoga experience. Choose a time that’s quiet, since you’ll need your
concentration. Perhaps early in the morning, or late at night, when home and family responsibilities are fewer.
6. Try not to eat or drink anything for about two hours before practicing home yoga. Eating and drinking can make you bloated, and make getting into poses uncomfortable!
7. Choose appropriate clothing for your home yoga experience. Baggy t-shirts and sweat pants don’t work, because they can restrict movement! Try a fitted but comfortable vest and sweatpants designed for yoga.
8. Set the tone. Make sure that your home yoga area is warm, and if you like, burn a scented oil or incense that you find relaxing. Lavender is a good choice, but if you prefer another scent, by all means use it!
9. Make sure that your family and friends know that your home yoga experience is “me time” and that they don’t interrupt you unnecessarily – nothing will throw your concentration off faster!
